Dear friends,

Need prompts this letter, calling once again for the sharing of perspective which is essential to the fulfillment of my purpose, the Foundation's purpose, the Course's purpose and that of everyone who wishes to Awaken.

Unique to A Course in Miracles is the idea that one does not study spiritual teachings to find God. One does not follow a great spiritual path to find God. One does not practice particular behaviors to find God, because one is to look into his brother's eyes and remember God.

Again: One is to look into his brother's eyes and remember God!

It is such a simple elegant point presented without fanfare or excessive repetition in order to impress its importance upon the reader. Yet, in its simplicity, it is the premise, the motive, the initiating intent or act upon which the meaning of every other part of the Course is built and depends. Abandon this one intent, become distracted from it for a moment, and the Course becomes nothing more than a set of principles, a grand theory, an abstraction rather than an involvement, and no matter how much or how seriously the book is studied, nothing will come of it! No change in you will occur!

Autonomy, is everyone's above-ground casket! It is the objection to finding God. It requires that you look into your brother's eyes and not remember God, else you will lose your autonomy, your freedom, and Salvation not of your hand will humiliate you, discredit you, and reduce you to a state of Atonement, bliss and holiness which you cannot take credit for!

In order for you to look into your brother's eyes and not spontaneously remember God, you must interfere with the connection, and the interference you use is your imagination. With it, you define your brother with the definitions you apply to yourself: You are autonomous. He is autonomous. You are isolated. He is isolated. You are self-seeking. He is self-seeking. You're a vulnerable hunk of matter. He's a vulnerable hunk of matter. And the selfish practices you indulge in, you must protect yourself against in him! All of this is the polar opposite of intimacy, and yet, as you can see, imagination is all it takes to absolutely defend yourself against remembering/finding God.

Using your imagination as the measuring-stick of your brother is insanity. It is arrogance. It is narcissism. It is the opposite of love. If you are all that you can see, if what you believe is all that you are willing to see in everything you see, then you find yourself incarcerated—held incommunicado from All That Is. This is not a position of power, or of grace. And the one simple thing it takes to escape this insanity is to look into your brother's eyes with the intent of intimacy with God.

Do not mistake my meaning. To look into your brother's eyes with the intent of intimacy with God is not a means of overlooking, avoiding, or not having to deal with need! If "divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need" instead of ignoring it, then meeting your brother's need is not only a divinely natural activity for you to participate in, it is a divinely essential activity, inseparable from your Awakening.

To "remember God" is to let compassion for your brother arise in you from the Father—because you embraced your brother for that purpose—and then gifting your brother with that which has risen in you . . . meeting the need by removing it. This amounts to "being about your Father's business" of being a Father. This amounts to being about your business of being a Brother. This amounts to being Family, where profit and loss, success and failure and independence are absolutely meaningless.

Can you imagine hearing someone say, "You owe me for being your mother!" "I owe you for being your sister." "You owe me a debt for every day I went to work and supported this family." Family is not a means of generating wealth or poverty, although it is often used that way. Family is involvement which nurtures balance, freedom, opportunity, comfort, needs met and infinitely more, because Love would have it no other way.

When you stop looking at each others eyes and start looking into each others eyes defenselessly, Love will inform your behavior. Selfishness, cynicism and defense will fade as evaluations of worthiness—both yours and others—become meaningless and stop standing in the way of the natural inclination to do whatever restores equilibrium in any situation, no matter what seemed to have occasioned it.

You gift yourself with the new behavior which you extend, the new intent which you act upon, because everyone is always learning by meaning—embracing and embodying what feels true, and returning it to you and others even more broadly by their extension.

This is the new paradigm. This is the new perception and action. This is the actuality of the two-step and the holy instant. This is what I am here to teach and facilitate . . . not as knowledge but as experience! This is why everything we do is a Gift, and it is why everyone is invited to participate in our extension on the basis of Gift. It can be difficult to understand because it flies in the face of the old paradigm, undermining it with that which seems to make less sense because it is unfamiliar.

Nevertheless, I persist in involving you, putting you up against a call for action that leaves you out of control—at least the control you thought you had with plain old commercialism. What escapes your attention, because it is so new, is that although it leaves you without the controls that "made you safe," it makes it impossible for you to be controlled, which "made you unsafe"!

It is simple. Although everything is a gift, co-creation is the bottom line—the practice and the fulfillment. For example: The Movement of God called Creation does not exist until it is recognized. Thus, the account of Creation in Genesis ends with God seeing everything he had made, "and behold it was very good"—behold, it was verily, God! Self-recognition!

The function of the Son of God is likewise to recognize and acknowledge Creation for What it Is, willing to participate in the Movement of Creation by that recognition and acknowledgment. That is co-creation! That is Wholeness!

You are invited to support this work as a voluntary act of appreciation rather than a required act of control. Your voluntary act matches my voluntary act, where trust is not required because distrust is not warranted. This sharing in the context of Family, where extension occurs not because it is earned, but because it is natural to Love, contributes substantially and actually to the global learning which is in process and is currently seen as the old paradigm not working. The demand which everyone is faced with here is the same demand everyone is being faced with globally—to look into your brother's eyes without overriding or dismissing his very fundamental needs so that you have reason to inquire of God how to be in the way that makes the need a thing of the past, no matter what seemed to create the need.

Whether it's money, whether it's forgiveness of debt, whether it's holding hands and finding peace, something will be called for from everyone, and I promise you that it will not be an austerity mindset or program! It will be an investment of involvement in Brotherhood with Love!

Those who have never heard of the Course, those who have never heard of our website, those who know nothing of the two-step or the holy instant, need to. My gifts and your gifts make it possible, and this circle of co-creation contributes to the new tone and more harmonious regenerative transformation that this year portends and needs.

I am sharing that there is a need to behave in a new way which arises out of Love's ever-present intention to meet need and obliterate it, and that this behavior be directed to and complement the Gifts we are engaged in making. The Foundation is still seriously in arrears. Paul has been unable to draw a paycheck since the end of April and $800 had to be borrowed from a supporter who is unemployed and in the process of declaring bankruptcy. It must be repaid.

It would appear that things are and have been at a standstill, but my love and Paul's love still prevail. Please consider everything I have shared.
